At Marsden State School we strive to provide a rich and challenging learning program for ALL students.  Our aims are:

  • To develop literacy, numeracy, problem solving, and social and communication skills.
  • To provide a balanced program that covers academic, creative, social and physical activities.
  • To recognise and cater for the full range of individual student needs and abilities.
  • To encourage students to give their best and to strive for excellence.

We teach the Australian Curriculum which is designed to help all young Australians to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. Presented as a developmental sequence of learning from Foundation - Year 10, the Australian Curriculum describes to teachers, parents, students and others in the wider community what is to be taught and the quality of learning expected of young people as they progress through school – wherever they live in Australia and whichever school they attend.

The Australian Curriculum includes a focus on seven general capabilities (literacy, numeracy, information and communication technology capability, critical and creative thinking, personal and social capability, ethical understanding and

intercultural understanding) and three cross-curriculum priorities (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, Asia and Australia'engagement with Asia and Sustainability).

Information for parents, families and carers can be found on the Australian Curriculum website.

At Marsden, our curriculum framework incorporates the Learning Areas of:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civics & Citizenship, Business & Economics)
  • Technologies - Digital and Design Technology (incorporates STEM)
  • Health and Physical Education
  • The Arts - Music, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Media
  • Language other than English - Chinese

Our systematic curriculum delivery is documented through Three Levels of Planning.  This includes;

  • The Provision of the Whole School Curriculum Document that outlines which learning areas will be taught and assessed in which semester and/or year;
  • The Year Level Learning Area Overviews that identify the context and key content of the units to be taught, and the aspects of the Achievement Standard to be assessed for each learning area in each unit.  These overviews map the content and assessment across the year ensuring a range and balance of evidence is used to make a judgement for the learning area or subject.
  • Learning Area/Subject Unit Plans are detailed teaching plans for the implementation of each unit of work for each learning area/subject.  Teaching teams collaboratively design and implement these units of work, catering for the needs and interests of their students, ensuring alignment to the aspects of the Australian Curriculum identified in the Year Level Learning Area Overviews.
