The Special Education Program (SEP) has been part of the Marsden State School culture for twenty-three (23) years.
Over this period of time, it has offered a wide variety of interventions that have been invaluable in supporting students with disabilities, in their quest for equity and inclusion. The program currently supports approximately ninety (90) students from Prep to grade 7. The SEP has a total staff of twenty-three (23). This includes teachers and teacher-aides. The programs support students with a verified disability in the categories of:
- Intellectual Impairment
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder
- Speech and Language Impairment
- Hearing Impairment
- Physical Impairment
Some students receive their SEP intervention in the regular classroom, whilst other students may access their learning through a mix of learning environments and with various levels of teacher aide support. The parents of the students play an invaluable role in the success of our SEP. They are encouraged to engage in their child's program at every level and are always welcome as a valued team member. The Marsden SEP is constantly developing new programs, so as to offer authentic learning experiences and unique pedagogy to satisfy the diverse learning levels and styles. Our programs are rich in experience, integrated and reflect the essential learnings articulated by Education Queensland. The SEP has six dedicated teaching spaces housed in three buildings. There is also a large shed which is utilised for a woodwork/pottery program. In addition, the SEP has its own secure playground, green house and a number of storage facilities.
The SEP has two toilets and showers, for the specific use of its students.
